What i great idea.

Planned any more felted sweater projects ?

I got a load of pretty nice Norwegian handknit wool sweaters, maybe this would be a good way of putting those into better use...

I have made three of these thus far, but have been using my surger and then putting a light batting and a flannel backing.

I make the smaller lap/baby blankets and I have had many requests for them from my friends who are willing to pay 50.00 for the small ones.

I use the military thrift store on Fort Carson and can get wool sweaters for .25$ a sweater! WOW! I have about 5 buckets of 6x6 squares so that when i have about an hour, i put one together. IT only takes an hour or so to arrange a pattern and then surge them together. I will someday work on batting and backing them.

I'm glad it was helpful -- it's still holding up pretty well, too.

I just made one of these for my boyfriend for Christmas. I used a ton of sweaters (I haunted every thrift store in town for about a month) and the resulting blanket is, frankly, much bigger and much better looking that I ever thought it would be. I cut the squares with an 11" template, typically getting 3-4 from each sweater (depending on shrinkage). One of the sweaters I used was a cardigan and I kept the pockets in the squares, which looks super fun. I used a color scheme similiar to that in the Crispina link. I finished it with black blanket edging, and it looks really nice. It's heavy as hell (in a good way) and big enough to cover a queen size mattress! I totally love it. Thanks for all your instructions and advice, it was invaluable!!

OK -- saw these being sold for 700 bucks a pop and said NO WAY we must be able to make them ourselves. Just found your site. YOU ARE THE BEST. Thanks for the tips.

I just got back from a yard sale with a bag of sweaters--which are already in the wash. I hope my comes out as nicely as yours. I saw one in the Sundance catalog this past year, and thought it was a great idea. Thanks for posting your instructions.

That looks awesome!

I'll definitely have to make one of those (though I'll probably wait until fall -- I can't imagine dealing with sweaters these days)
:)
