So Pete’s the one currently en route to California as we speak, but I am the one who took this photo today. In Montreal. Because even if this city is on an island in the middle of the river, we might as well make the most of the standing waves in the rapids, dammit.

My brain had a hard time parsing the whole “surfing, stationary, in a river” concept, though.  The St. Laurence, she does not smell like an ocean, or sound like an ocean.  The constant stream of surfers carrying boards passes down a muddy dirt path, not a sandy one.  And yet, I’m greeted with the familiar sight of people changing into wetsuits in the parking lot.
