Tie-Sleeve Tunic

Materials: 3 yards of poplin blend from the ever-popular 3-for-the-price-of-1 Fabricville sale. Simplicity 3835 pattern.

Time: Two weeks, very intermittently?  This is a straightforward pattern.

Cost: $8.

I’ve already made a couple of projects from this pattern, but I dragged it out again because I’d been wanting a couple of printed tunic-length tops to layer.  This is a super-simple pattern, so it’s an easy way to augment my wardrobe.

From the front!

From the back! The eagle-eyed will notice that it is exactly the same, except for a center seam and the addition of darts.  I didn’t add a zipper, because I’ve found that if you’re fairy flexible and have the elastic neckline it’s not necessary.  And I’m lazy and cheap.

I modified the sleeves a bit, giving them ties and also making them significantly wider.  I had a hard time fitting my formidable guns through the sleeves as sized on the pattern.  I also flared out the hem a tiny bit, and I’m really glad I did; I didn’t realize it until I tried it on to take photos, but it makes it look like a little frock when belted.  Nice.

I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to make this a tunic (to wear with jeans and boots) or a dress (to wear with tights and boots); after hemming, jeans it is!  Pop on a turtleneck or cardigan, and I’ll be good to go.

Very cute tunic. I love how the large scale print makes the very simple style look modern, and the colors look great on you.
