An Announcement
This is something I made public on Facebook this weekend, but given the strength of the response there I figure I should make it even more public: after seven years of cohabitation, Pete and I combined our bookshelves this weekend.
This probably sounds like a bigger deal than it really is, given that so many of our books are already clustered into subcategories: craft books, cookbooks, reference books, field-specific works relevant to my dissertation, books I haven’t yet read, and nonfiction are already separated. We also have one bookshelf with shelves packed in at 10″ apart, so we make the most of it by using it for trade paperbacks; it houses Pete’s Terry Pratchett collection along with many of my juvenile lit / YA books. While we were going through the rearranged shelves, we also extracted a dozen paperbacks that actually belong to other people; return inquiries are pending. (Though giving borrowed books back to their owners is a much less daunting proposition when it doesn’t involve international shipping, ugh.) Pete then extracted another half-dozen titles for the thrift store pile.
But after all that, his copies of Stranger in a Strange Land, a compilation of H.P. Lovecraft, and Tepper Isn’t Going Out are now alphabetized among what I would have formerly referred to as “my” fiction / poetry area. Voilà — integration.
