I haven't made this, but I've eaten it and it's damn good. It's taken from a friend's 1944 Better Homes and Gardens recipe, which is often the best kind -- it requires only common, household baking supplies, so you can whip it up without a special grocery trip.

Brownie Pudding

Ingredients
1 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups boiling water
vanilla ice cream

Instructions
1. Grease an 8x3x2-inch baking pan; set aside. In a medium bowl stir together the flour, granulated sugar, the 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, the baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, oil, and the vanilla. Stir in the walnuts.

2. Pour batter into prepared baking pan. In a small bowl stir together the brown sugar and the 1/4 cup cocoa powder; stir in the boiling water. Slowly pour water mixture over batter.

3. Bake in a 350 oven for 40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 45 to 60 minutes. Serve warm. Spoon cake into dessert bowls; spoon sauce over cake. If desired, serve with vanilla ice cream.

Two questions: how much salt and how much boiling water.
I have made something like this in the crock pot. The recipe is called Chocolate Mud Cake and can be found at the Family Fun website or you can cut and paste this http://jas.family.go.com/Family/cookbook.app?page=ShowRecipe&recipeID=40771&shelfSrc=null

Good question! I didn't notice the omissions. I see the sender of this recipe in class tomorrow, so I'll bug him then.

It's 1 1/2 cups. I'll amend the recipe accordingly. I'm pretty sure that the salt is just a pinch, too.
