Can you believe that it's taken me so long to knit baby things?
Materials: GGH Samoa (50% cotton, 50% acrylic) in purple from Lakeside Fibers; Baby Aran pattern from Knitting For Baby.Time: 1 month.
Cost: not saying — it’s a present!
I knit the bulk of the main body of this baby sweater when, of all things, I was reviewing my notes during the week before prelims. Contrary to appearances, the cable pattern is super-easy to memorize and doesn't require much thought at all.
I have nothing but good things to say about this pattern from Knitting For Baby -- it was very well-written, and could be executed by nearly anybody with the proper amount of determination.
I love how defined the cables are. I'm picky about my cottons, but I'm considering another cabled cotton sweater for myself -- something slightly larger, of course.
Addendum, May 2007:
Freed from a pattern, Lorna's Laces run wild!
Materials: 2 skeins Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (75% Superwash Wool, 25% Nylon) in Black Purl; size 1 DPNsTime: 1.5 months.
Cost: $18
After considering my absurdly tight sock-weight gauge, I upsized a generic top-down pattern for these socks.
The finished socks fit perfectly, and they're super-soft and comfy. I'm torn about Lorna’s Laces -- on one hand, it costs $20 for a pair of socks! On the other hand, it's the nicest sock yarn that I've ever worked with. I wouldn't use a colorway like Black Purl for a heavily textured pattern -- the color changes would wipe out any patterning -- but a basic rib works nicely.
