And So It Begins

You know how some parents scrimp and save so that their darling child can have a brand-new SUV on their 16th birthday, a college education, or other such expensive frivolities? Apparently, my mother’s had a sewing machine fund in effect for me for quite some time, and so she’s decided that for my 23rd birthday I will have a brand-new Bernina Virtuosa 153, and therefore not shame the ever-stitching family honor.

It’s not my birthday yet, so the machine is still in the box. I also don’t have a table, lamp, storage unit, cutting board, scissors, tape measure, pins, needles, thread, or fabric. Or a reference book, some familiarity with the machine’s operation, or a knowledge of how to sew.

So. Once I give in to temptation — or my next paycheck arrives — all hell’s going to be breaking loose. But for the time being, I’ve got an extraordinarily expensive, heavy, and unpacked paperweight.

my mother-in-law bought me a sewing machine for my graduation. i am scared of it. it has too many moving parts, moves too fast and is entirely too loud. that and i don't have a table for it.

I found a White 1418 machine on sale at Joann's a couple of years ago at 60% off... It's a small but sturdy machine, I love it.
