Question: when a recipe calls for “5 green onions,” does the number refer to each separate bunch of onions connected at the root? Or each individual tube? Since I like green onions, I’m erring on the side of plenty. Also, it’s not like I have many ideas for the leftovers.
This reminds me of the difficulties of onion sizing — in my world, recipes either get a Massive Onion (circumference roughly that of a CD), Tiny Onion (circumference smaller than a tennis ball ), or No Onion. I’d like to institute these as technical terms.
I also enjoy green onions but I always thought of 5 green onions as 5 "onion tubes:. I usually add more onions and scallions to suit my tastes none the less. Great new section.
5 green oninons, I believe, refers to 5 single stalks from the bunch. That's how I'd interpret it.
Aloha! Just popping up on your site, this time, courtesy of Michele of Quidnunc!
(Although I've been to your site from time to time, I've always thought you had quite a site, which one would think would make me visit every day! Hope you don't mind if my habits change!)
*:) Take care!
Aw, thanks!
The official conclusion of this post is that I like green onions.
